For the transportation of dangerous goods, gas cargo is undoubtedly the most important. Whether it is the industrial gas loaded in the cylinder or the aerosol or spray can often contacted in daily life, as long as it is a gas product, it is almost regarded as dangerous goods in transportation. Hazard goods usually are flammable and toxic, but gas is diffusive. Even if it is non-flammable and non-toxic, it will release the concentration of oxygen in the confined space. It will also cause personal injury. In addition, when the gas is heated, impacted or strongly shaken, it will increase the internal pressure of the container, causing the container to explode. It’s quite dangerous.
As a professional international freight forwarder in the import and export of dangerous goods, we often receive questions from customers about the export shipping of gas goods. One of the most mentioned is refrigerant. How to expoprt the refrigerant ? Can the refrigerant be transported by air? It is a question that many friends care about.
For example, R22 refrigerant, UN number 1018, dangerous goods grade 2.2. We can see the DGR transport management method for this cargo:
There are three types of air transport, namely passenger aircraft, passenger and cargo aircraft, and all freighters. The DGR’s transportation regulations for R22 refrigerants are prohibited by passenger aircraft. The maximum net weight of passenger and cargo aircraft is 75KG, and the maximum net weight of single cargo aircraft is 150KG. In other words, the refrigerant R22 is allowed to be transported by air on a passenger or freighter or a full cargo aircraft, as long as the relevant transportation requirements are met. Here a limited number of transport packaging is prohibited. which means that the goods cannot be transported by means of limited packaging. but it must be operated in accordance with the requirements of dangerous goods.
